In short

The best-known day trips in Mallorca go to the Serra de Tramuntana, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2011, with Valldemossa, Deià and Sóller, on the historic train that has run from Palma to Sóller since 1912, and to the Caves of Drach near Porto Cristo in the east. Mallorca measures 98 kilometres from east to west, so choose tours that start close to where you are staying.

Activities by theme

  • Palma and villages: city tours, the cathedral, Valldemossa, Deià and the train to Sóller.
  • Sea and coves: catamarans, excursion boats, kayaking and snorkelling. More under boat trips.
  • Wine and food: wineries, markets and Mallorcan cooking classes.

The classic day trips

Three places turn up in almost every programme. The Serra de Tramuntana has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2011, and many day tours combine Valldemossa, Deià and Sóller. The train from Palma to Sóller has run through 13 tunnels since 1912. In the east, near Porto Cristo, are the Caves of Drach with Lake Martel. For an overview of all the places, see things to see.

How to choose the right trip

  • Starting point: check where the tour begins and whether pick-up is offered where you are staying. Mallorca measures 98 kilometres from east to west.
  • Duration: half days leave time for the beach, full days cover several places.
  • Cancellation: the cancellation terms are shown with each offer. Read them before booking, especially for boat trips and in the wetter months.
  • Price: the current price is shown with each offer. No prices are quoted here because they change.

Frequently asked questions

Which day trips in Mallorca are most worth doing?

The classics include a day in the Serra de Tramuntana with Valldemossa, Deià and Sóller, the ride on the historic train from Palma to Sóller, the Caves of Drach near Porto Cristo and a boat trip. Which is most worthwhile depends on where you are staying.

Which activities in Mallorca work without a hire car?

Without a hire car, good options are city tours in Palma, the train to Sóller from Plaça d'Espanya and catamaran trips from the port of Palma. Some guided day tours also offer pick-up. Check the meeting point in the description of each offer.

Do you need to book day trips in Mallorca in advance?

It makes sense for activities with fixed departures or limited places, especially in July and August. That includes boat trips, cave visits with timed entry and guided tours. Beach days, villages and markets need no reservation.

Which activities in Mallorca are suitable for children?

Good choices for children are the caves near Porto Cristo with their underground lake, Palma Aquarium, the historic train to Sóller and shorter boat trips. Our selection also includes, for example, dolphin watching from Alcúdia. Check the duration and the minimum age.

What can you do in Mallorca when it rains?

When it rains, caves, the cathedral and museums in Palma, wine tastings and cooking classes all work. According to AEMET, even in October, the wettest month, it rains in Palma on an average of only 6.7 days. Simply swap outdoor trips according to the forecast.

Which day trips can you take from Palma de Mallorca?

City tours, catamaran trips around the bay, the train to Sóller and many coach day tours to the Serra de Tramuntana and the caves in the east all start from Palma. The airport is eight kilometres away, so Palma also works as a base for short trips.

When is the best time for day trips in Mallorca?

For trips on land, April, May and October are pleasant, with mean daily highs in Palma between 19.2 and 23.7 °C according to AEMET. For boat trips and anything on the water, June to September is more reliable because there is hardly any rain.
